Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Lent introduces us to the rhythm of fasting followed by feasting.
Lent is a time to say good-bye. We often think of fasting from food. But for forty days can we also fast from our busy-ness, from addiction to noise, from compulsion to perfection, and from the illusions of our culture? What consumes us? Can we stop to listen to the voice of God speaking in our heart?
Lent is also a time to experience anew God's forgiveness. He longs to welcome us home. Let us open ourselves to His abundant forgiveness as we cry, "Lord Jesus Christ Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
Then let us welcome with joy the release from bondage. Then let us look forward with joy to celebrate the feast of Christ's resurrection.
As we observe Lent, may Christ be formed in us.
